Artspring 2009

Ambleside School’s Artspring 2009 was a great success, raising $24,000 to help fund Ambleside’s tuition assistance program!

This year’s event actually began the day before, with a luncheon to honor donating artists. Fifteen artists attended and had a wonderful time interacting with the students, sharing stories about how they became artists and why.

Artspring event tickets sold out several days before, and 260 people attended the evening gal at the historic Decatur House, just a block from the White House.Sixty pieces of professional and amateur art and thirty-one Artspring packages were displayed in opulent fashion.

Student art, displayed in its own gallery, was a huge hit. A number of our donating artists are current or former teachers with a heart for art education.  Ambleside’s emphasis on both technical skill and creative expression refreshed them, at a time when the teaching of art is relegated to the status of an elective in many schools.

In addition to the delightful artwork, guests repeatedly remarked on the atmosphere and quality of the event- the food, the art, the harp music, the wine, and the fun of having “live” painter Cecily Corcoran Paquette working in oils as they looked on and student artist Alyssa Bruce creating beaded jewelry to be auctioned at the end of the evening.

We are so grateful to our donating artists, corporate and marketplace sponsors, and Artspring patrons. Please review our 2009 Catalogue and support these businesses in the year ahead. Thanks to all!
