My academic background is in fine arts and my employment background is in technology. I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a BFA in painting and printmaking. My work has been exhibited in Virginia and Maryland. While painting was my medium of choice for many years, I recently switched to digital photography.
Nature has always inspired my art, whether in painting or photography. A few years ago I went through a traumatic experience that left me feeling as if the spark that drove my creativity had died. I began finding solace outdoors photographing whatever caught my eye. Since then I found my creativity had not died, it had taken a different form. Attempting to capture the beauty of nature brings a sense of peace and awe. My desire is to share that beauty with others in the hope that the viewer will find a connection as well.
Ronni Jolles, an artist known for innovation, has introduced a new art form. The technique could be called collage or mixed media, but in fact, it is something quite different. Paper—in its many colors and textures – is the essence of Jolles’s work. In a language distinct from painting, Jolles uses paper as a painter creates with paint. The many different papers have been gathered from all over the world including such places as Nepal, Japan, Egypt, Thailand, Italy, Mexico, India, and Tibet.
Jolles graduated from Cornell University and has received artistic training in drawing, painting, printmaking, and photography from many schools.
Through experimentation and finely honed technical skills, Jolles has broken from convention with the creation of both sculptural and highly textured artwork. Each work is clearly an original and one-of-a-kind. The artwork of Ronni Jolles can be seen in galleries across the country.
